The group has been fundraising for the past 15 years and in that time has managed to raise over $485,000, all contributing to the research department of the hospital.
Group spokesperson Marie Main said that they first chose the Mater because they wanted to see the money benefit the research of all forms of cancer.
Senior hospital scientist at the Mater, Dr. Lisa Lincz, said that the money had gone a long way over the years and has been used to purchase new medical equipment.
The group is hoping to reach its target of $500,000 in 2015 – with all money coming from the sale of raffle tickets as well as organised bus trips.
Mrs. Main said that the money raised is a community effort and they are very grateful of all the support they have received.
The group meets on the first Monday of every month, with the first meeting of 2015 to take place in February at Cessnock Leagues Club. New members are always welcome.
