Keegan, 16, was one of 12 women invited to compete in the event at Old Bar on Saturday.
The race was her first event in the open’s category after she turned 16 in November last year.
She competed in three races on the oil track, where the points were accumulated from each race to give her an overall placing.
Keegan got off to a bad start in the first race, but managed to push her way through the pack to finish in fourth position.
She improved in the second race, getting herself into second place until the race was red-flagged due to a crash, meaning it had to be started again.
In the re-run, Keegan was third over the line.
In her last race, she improved yet again, crossing the line second which got her the overall second place on the day.
Keegan had two weekends of preparation in the lead-up to the event.
She travelled to Raymond Terrace to practice on a dirt track, followed by two days in Gunnedah for practice on an oil track along with her normal bike prep.
Keegan said she was ‘stoked’ with her results in her first open competition.
“I was up against some pretty advanced riders, and I was on a smaller capacity bike,” she said.
She was the only participant on a 250 competing against the other riders on 450 bikes.
Keegan is now preparing for the upcoming road racing competition, the Ninja 300 Cup in Sydney from March 27 to 29, with road racing being her main priority for the remainder of the year.
