After last week’s national futsal championships, Sophie was named in the All Star team (the top five players of the tournament) and will play with the Australian Girls Youth in Taiwan in December.
This was on the back of a whirlwind tour of Brazil in November, when Sophie captained the Australian 16-17 years girls’ national representative futsal team that spent two weeks touring the South American nation and won a tournament.
They also played trial games and trained with Brazilian coaches.
The tour of Brazil was organised by the Australian Futsal Association, with young players from all over the country handpicked to take part after the 2014 national championships.
Sophie again represented the Northern NSW Country 16-years team at the 2015 nationals last week in Penrith, where her team finished with six wins, two draws and 41 goals but went down in the semis in extra time 1-0.
Sophie, who plays football with the Emerging Jets, took up futsal only a year ago as a way to develop her skills, but said that the sport feels like a natural progression.
On the soccer field, Sophie was given the opportunity to train with the Newcastle Jets W-League team last season, and will this year again play for the Emerging Jets team in the Sydney Premier League.
