Retired NRL stars including Parramatta’s Nathan Hindmarsh, Manly’s Steve Menzies, Sydney’s Ian Schubert and Newcastle’s Josh Perry made an appearance, signed autographs and led coaching clinics at Cessnock Sportsground as part of the annual charity ride for Father Chris Riley’s Youth Off The Streets.
Brad Fittler organised the event several years ago after hearing that there were nearly 47,000 homeless young people under the age of 25 in Australia.
“This is our chance to help make a difference,” Fittler said.
“I’ve been amazed to hear just how many young people are homeless in some of our country towns. Father Chris Riley does a great job with Youth Off The Streets but he needs your help.
“Nathan Hindmarsh and the other former players who’ve joined the ride have been fantastic and we’ve met some wonderful and very generous people who all want to help a good cause.”
Harley-Davidson has donated a XL1200X Forty Eight worth $19,495 to raffle during Hogs For Homeless with all proceeds from the sale of tickets going to Youth Off The Streets. For your chance to win, go to www.nswrl.com.au.
The riders departed Cessnock on Monday, with their next stop at Werris Creek followed by Tamworth.
The 3200-kilometre ride will finish at Pirtek Stadium ahead of the round 1 clash between Parramatta and Manly on Friday, March 6.
