This will be the biggest test for the Cessnock side this year, with the Tamworth team boasting some on the best players in NSW country cricket.
There have been two changes made to the side that recently took out the John Bull Shield: Peden’s legend Matthew Hopley and Colts captain Michael Ho are in for Greta/Branxton’s Michael Shelley and Damien Frize, who are both out due to work commitments.
Hopley forces his way into the side after some recent explosive innings for his beloved Peden’s, while Ho has impressed in his return to Cessnock District Cricket.
The side will be:
Jason Orr (Bellbird)
Drew Olsen (Mulbring)
Joshua Dagg (Greta/Branxton)
Andrew Carmichael (Mulbring)
Michael Ho (Supporters)
Greg Sheehan (Mulbring)
Greg Andrews (Greta/Branxton)
Barry Richards (Greta/Branxton)
Matthew Hopley (Pedens)
Nathan Stapleford (Supporters)
Matt Tomlinson (Bellbird)
Brent Watson (Greta/Branxton)
Cessnock will be looking to take the Coal Board Cup for the first time in association history but the will have a stern test in front of them against a high quality opponent featuring Simon Norvill, Ben Middlebrook, Adam Lole and Aaron Hazlewood.
Cessnock will be looking to their former captain, Joshua Dagg, for a repeat of the last time they played a Tamworth-based side, where he brought up his maiden representative century.
Nathan Stapleford is the leading wicket taker this year on the representative scene and will again need to stand up against an explosive batting line-up led by Middlebrook and Norvill.
Victory in the Coal Board Cup will solidify Cessnock’s position as the premier competition in the Hunter Valley and be great recognition for a side that has reached new levels in 2014/15.
