Mrs. West has taught scripture to hundreds of Kurri-area children in the past three decades.
She started at Kurri Public School and is now back where she began – with stints at Pelaw Main and Abermain in between.
A dedicated Catholic, she says she enjoys sharing her faith with the school children, providing the opportunity for them to learn about something they may not experience in their home.
“I enjoy that I can give back to the children a little bit of the faith that I have,” she said.
“It comes down to showing respect, the faith to lead a good life, get on with your family, classmates and teachers.”
She has proudly seen many of the children take the sacraments, and some still come to mass to this day.
Mrs. West is heavily involved in the Kurri Catholic Parish, where she provides education for men and women coming into the church and is part of the liturgy team.
“Over the years my faith has become stronger,” she said.
“It’s nice to carry on religion as best we can.”
