The festival – which celebrates the classic cars, fashion and music of the 1950s and ‘60s – is now in its 12th year.

Event organiser Lesley Morris said this year will be as big as ever and that she is looking forward to both the previous and newly-introduced events.

She said a big feature this year is the market stalls.

While there have always been stalls, Ms. Morris said the ones coming this year are amazing and of an extremely high quality.

She said the best dressed competitions will be a hit as well, with a new category for couples.

This is the first time there will be a category for the men, which Ms. Morris said is exciting as many of the guys go to a lot of effort with their outfits.

The usual classic cars and hot rods will be a drawcard too, along with the impressive stage entertainment including a performance by Hunter TAFE students.

Ms. Morris said she is hoping for good weather, good crowds and for people to enjoy the weekend.

“It’s a fantastic festival,” she said.

“Everyone always has a good time and gets into the spirit.”

Cessnock Mayor Bob Pynsent will open the festival with Miss Cessnock City Cassandra Battle at 10am on Saturday and is looking forward to seeing crowds getting involved and having fun.

“People really get into the swing of the festival by dressing up and dancing in the streets,” Cr. Pynsent said.

“The weekend attracts crowds of people to Kurri Kurri, making it one of the largest festivals of its kind in Australia and a great tourist attraction for the region.”
