Cessnock City Motor Group staff Bob Bedford and Danny Hawkins will find out the extent of this challenge when they take part in the Cancer Council’s Shitbox Rally in May.
Bob completed last year’s rally – from Perth to Darwin – with his son Robert, who was unable to take part this year.
Bob and Danny will be competing in an old Falcon ute under the name of ‘The Cessnock Flyers’.
Teams are required to raise a minimum of $5000, and with more than 200 teams, this year’s event is expected to raise more than $1 million.
The rally starts in Canberra on May 9 and will travel via Hay, Silverton, Marree, Birdsville, Boulia and Hugheden to finish in Townsville on May 15.
All of the cars that take part will be auctioned off at the end of the rally to add additional funding for vital Cancer Council research initiatives.
Donations to the Cessnock Flyers can be made online here.
