The meeting will open with a solemn ritual known as the Empty Chair, through which the sacrifice of those who fell in battle is honoured.
Ex-service members of the Lodge will take a central role in this ritual, and ex-service personnel are particularly encouraged to attend for this ceremony. Decorations may be worn.
This will be followed by an address from Christine Bramble, a noted local historian who has researched the role of military nurses in World War I.
“The role of the nurses is often overlooked,” Lodge Tomalpin master Ray Leggett said.
“Many of the men evacuated from Gallipoli, and wounded in later battles throughout that war and others would not have survived but for the efforts of these courageous women.
“Through this program we seek to honour not only combatants, but also those who cared for them.”
The meeting will be held at Weston Masonic Centre (47 Second Street) on Monday at 7pm for 7.30pm.
Supper will be served following the meeting. To assist with catering, RSVP to Greg Allen on 0407 361 080 by Monday morning.
