It was a change for Will O’Neil’s school holiday camp as the weather improved for the two days, and was good to see such a good attendance on the Friday with coaching games and a great sausage sizzle which would have been a reward with our strange weather.

Eight courts were in action on the Friday afternoon for a round robin competition to finish up the two days of coaching.

So now hopefully the enthusiastic players will come to the courts for further play as Will said there were some promising players during the two days. At the meeting on Sunday night Will had a special thank you to Brad and Nicky for their help with the sausage sizzle as all help was appreciated during the two days.

Night tennis in its present form will continue for a few weeks starting again on Friday, April 24 and will run for a few weeks to give players time to find a partner for the Night Light competition. So if you are interested in playing the new comp give Nancy your name and partner’s name to help get it in order for the commencement, the date will appear in a later issue.

But for the present play just arrive and Nancy will do the draw for your night’s tennis for the next few weeks; she puts so much into the night hope all players appreciate her dedication to their tennis.

This week we had a special player celebrate her birthday on Friday so it was a longer morning tea for Beryl on Saturday with strawberry cream cake and chocolate cream cheese slice again with strawberries, which was enjoyed by all but was back to tennis to deduct a few unwanted grams. We also saw two new players join us for tennis so just be like them and come to the courts and you will be welcome to play.

The senior men were on the courts on Friday and we commented that they are worth watching for court craft and stroke play regardless of age. They play under any season predicaments where we call it a day and enjoy the inside comforts.

It was disappointing to see the mess on approaching the club house on Wednesday morning; some bright sparks had used sunscreen and squirted it over walls, floor and the notice board where everything had to be discarded to the bin. It is a shame to see that kind of disservice being done in Cessnock; I thought there would be more respect for the town’s amenities.

I think Brad and Nicky had a pleasant surprise this week when the rails were moved back and they were able to reach their home, and vehicles were off the street where the trailer was being used for a rubbish bin.

The Hunter Valley Tournament will be held again this month on April 19, so we are always looking for players to join us for the day, just call Kel on 4938 3190 or 0427 007 155 with your name to be entered in the draw for either ladies or men’s doubles in the morning and mixed doubles after lunch. By then we hope the weather will have sorted out which season we are in.
