After a few early showers and a light drizzle on and off, the ball spent a lot of time with the forwards, with the backs getting the occasional run. Pokolbin’s scrum did a great job against a much heavier pack.
Cameron Noble scored the only points for the Reds through a penalty goal and he showed excellent positional play throughout the game.
The Reds’ outside backs had limited opportunities due to the slick conditions.
The defence was strong across the field with Medowie scoring once in the first half and again in the second half.
Mackenzie Doody, 17, became the first Pokolbin junior to play in the senior team, and was joined by his father on the field.
Mackenzie, along with Joey Lesnik, are showing good potential with the experienced players Mike De Iuliis, Mick Doody and Murray Clarke leading the young team forward.
The Reds have laid a good foundation for the rest of the season and a number of experienced players are still to return after injury.
They will take on Singleton Army Lions at Lone Pine Barracks at 3pm Saturday.
