With more than 600 bakeries across Australia taking part, Bakers Delight hopes to raise $1.5 million for the BCNA throughout the campaign, which concludes on June 3.
One hundred per cent of the sale of pink buns will go to the BCNA, and customers are invited to write on colourful ‘Pink Lady’ paper silhouettes for a gold coin donation.
Cessnock Breast Cancer Support Group will also be involved in the Pink Bun campaign, which is the first time the two have combined on a local scale.
The support group will also be making regular appearances at Bakers Delight during the campaign and will have information and flyers at the store.
Local breast cancer survivor and support group co-ordinator Katrina Richardson said that it is important to raise awareness about breast cancer in the local area.
She said many people don’t think to look for support until they are diagnosed, so they don’t know the group is around.
The support group and Bakers Delight Cessnock plan to have an ongoing partnership in the future and collaborate again next year.
Bakers Delight has donated $15 million worth of funds and pro-bono services to BCNA in the past 15 years.
Money raised by the Pink Bun campaign supports essential BCNA services, including the My Journey Kit, an information pack provided to people newly diagnosed with breast cancer.
More than 12,000 My Journey Kits are provided annually, and last year over 84 per cent of newly diagnosed Australian women received a kit free of charge.
