Playing in his 200th first grade game, Robbie Turnbull felt the same pain as his 100th, being on a beaten side.
Hamilton was the better side and appeared more comfortable on the ball – while the Bears fought hard and had their chances, they weren’t quite at the races and paid the ultimate price.
Troy Hearfield and Jason Cowburn came into the starting XI in place of Wilson Edwards and Jamie Subat.
Hamilton opened the scoring in the 17th minute via Jacob Bailey, who was left free and scored from close range.
Hearfield equalised in the 38th minute when his strike from the edge of the box found the corner of the net to give Weston hope.
Hamilton got a penalty two minutes later after Nathan Morris brought down Kane Goodchild inside the box. Goodchild smashed the ball down the middle but Bears keeper Tim Pratt was up to the task, sending the ball to safety.
Weston couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start in the second half, conceding in only the third minute through Goodchild.
The Bears had a great chance to make it 2-2 after some great build up in the 67th minute. Following some great passing around the box, Cowburn was left with only the keeper to beat but he pushed his shot to the right of the far post.
Three minutes after the Bears paid a huge penalty, conceding again at the back post through Goodchild.
In the end the mountain was too high to climb and the Bears suffered their second loss of the year.
The under-22s led 1-0 through Jamie Subat at half time and should have led 3-0 after butchering two chances.
In the second half Hamilton scored four unanswered goals before Kyle Rendell pulled one back, going down 4-2.
Weston’s under-19s were the opposite, being behind 1-0 at half time and really should have been out of the contest.
But the second stanza was a completely different story with Weston scoring four goals to win 4-1 and remain unbeaten. Jake Sills, Isaac Peek, Blake Roy and Alex Mathias all got their names on the score sheet.
Weston’s youth games were postponed on Saturday and will now play on the spare weekend on June 20.
The youth sides will travel to Lisle Carr Oval, Whitebridge on Saturday to face Charlestown City Blues.
The seniors tackle the high-flying Broadmeadow Magic on Sunday, which will be a tough road trip.
