The Reds faced a stern test at the Lone Pine Barracks, with Army coming into the game in equal first place.
Pokolbin started the first half with the wind at their backs. Army were strong out of the blocks and spent a fair amount of the first 20 minutes in the Reds’ half.
It soon became apparent that if the ball was kept in the forwards, the Reds would have their work cut for them.
Pokolbin finally managed to secure some good forwards ball and the backs were let loose. The score was quickly 5-0 to the Reds, thanks to James Bodycote who went over for a try.
Not long after, Andy Murphy showed his speed and skill on the wing and crossed for a second try making the score 10-0.
The Reds went into half-time leading the game and were justified to be happy with a solid lead.
The second half started well with the Reds defending their score, but finally Army were able to use their dominance in the scrum close to the line and produced a pushover try.
With their tail up, the Army backs finally managed to hold onto the ball and about 10 minutes later scored a second try.
Army’s fitness started to show through in the final five minutes and they crossed again to make the final score 17-10.
The Reds are at home against Cooks Hill this Saturday at 3pm in what’s sure to be a hotly-contested match.
