Under-7s: Pokolbin’s feisty under-7s came up against the new recruits of Easts with a home game at HVG. Recognising the inexperience of their opposition, it was decided the time was right to start testing the side’s ball skills and add more passes into the play. While this created some frustration at first for the boys with white line fever, they began to see that training is paying off with some great team spirit. The more seasoned boys were getting the ball out to supporting players and helped get their new teammates Chayse and Jack over the line for tries. Well done to Lachlan L. for being a strong all-rounder, earning player of the week.

Under-8s: In an absolutely blistering display of rugby, the under-8s Pokolbin Reds triumphed over a strong Maitland Blacks side for their first win of the season. From the kick-off to the final whistle, the Reds simply had it all going on in both attack and defence, running in seven tries to two. Sinclair Marsh (three), Oscar Dent (two), Felix Sutherland and TC Metcalf ran in some world-class tries. The Reds’ defence was solid and a clear indication of progress made at training. Equally, the basic concepts of rugby are starting to sink in, which was highly evident on Saturday. All the boys displayed a vigour not seen before in this side and big pats on the back to the entire team.
The under-9s game was cancelled on the weekend and the under-11s and under-12s each had a bye.
Saturday night was a great night for the Pokolbin Junior Rugby Club, who were invited to be the guard of honour for the Waratahs and Crusaders match. Well done to all the boys from the club who travelled to ANZ Stadium and participated in the march past and guard of honour, it was a fantastic night out, with the Waratahs winning 32-22. The club thanks its president Tim Murray for his organisation in getting everyone there.
