The female driver was the lone occupant of the Mitsubishi sedan and was taken from the scene in an ambulance, then flown by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.
The accident occurred just after 8am, while home-owner Glen Small was having a cup of tea in his kitchen.
He said he thought a large tree had fallen in the yard when he heard the noise.
Neighbour Michelle Bowen said she heard a “terrific bang” and went outside to discover what had happened and alerted authorities.
Neighbours assisted the woman out of the car and waited with her until emergency services arrived.
The owners of the home – on the corner of Wollombi Road and Eleventh Avenue – said this is the third car that has come through their fence in the 18 years they have lived there.
They believe council needs to do something about the sharp bend on Eleventh Avenue to prevent accidents like this from occurring again.
The accident is undergoing investigation to determine its cause.
