The year 10 and 11 students were led through guided tours and introduced to guest speakers by Eraring’s community relations business partner Jacqueline Tranter.

Two employees spoke about their employment experiences after leaving high school.

“Describing their interests at school, their hobbies and long term aspirations both these young men were unsure of their directions but were willing to give whatever was put in front of them and do it to the best of their ability,” supervising teacher Col Butters said.

Other staff spoke about rising through the ranks, further education, CV applications, strategies, first impressions and other tips to help with employment.

To finish the day the students engaged in interview techniques and role plays before undertaking a guided tour around the power station.

Mr. Butters said the day was of great benefit to everyone who attended.

“Many thanks from Mr. Newman and myself and the eleven students who accompanied us must go to all those involved from Eraring and the Beacon Foundation for organising it and for a most informative and interesting day,” he said.

The Beacon Foundation is a national non-profit organisation that works in more than 100 secondary schools across Australia, helping inspire students to either stay in school and increase their educational engagement or choose a positive pathway that leads to employment.

The Beacon Foundation is a partner of the Origin Foundation, which supports programs that use education as a pathway to a brighter future for individuals and their communities.

“Beacon’s approach is about linking educators and young people in schools to the business community, so that students can learn first-hand about the many and varied career pathways that are available within each industry sector,” Beacon Foundation CEO Scott Harris said.

“It’s our partnerships with businesses such as Origin that allow this to happen.”
