The 15-year-old won all four races on the weekend of July 11 and 12 and achieved the maximum 100 points on a cold and miserable weekend in Sydney.
In a small yet strong field of riders, Spinks had the opportunity to relax and just get out there and ride which worked in his favour.
“It was a pretty chilled out day,” he said.
“It was good to get a win.”
However, the junior still needed to overcome the odd obstacle to achieve the title; he had new tyres put on his bike on the weekend, which were not the brand of tyre he was used to.
“The bike was really weird to ride,” he said.
“It was hard to adjust to.”
A few weeks prior, Spinks also performed well in round two of the Pirelli Road Race Series at Mount Gambier.
He achieved equal second in the 250/300 cc Clubsport Lite class, and finished third on a count back.
In what was another cold and rainy day, Spinks said even though the conditions weren’t favourable it was still enjoyable to be riding and competing.
“It’s good fun, even though it was cold and miserable it’s still good to be out on the track,” he said.
Spinks now has a more certain goal in sight, turning 16 so he can race his new Ninja ZX6R 600cc bike.
Previously receiving exemption to compete against the seniors in road race events, Spinks will have the opportunity to race in every single event on a bike double the size of his previous hog come November.
“It will be fun to ride something that’s definitely faster than anything I’ve ever rode before,” he said.
Spinks believes it may take him a while to get used to the bigger bike, but he is confident he will soon succeed.
“The competition will be hard, it will take me a bit to get close to the front but I think I can get there eventually.”
Spinks is also preparing for his first dirt bike event in a while – the NSW Junior Track Championships at Barleigh Ranch on August 1, which will also be his last dirt track event as a junior.
Spinks would like to thank Phil Tomlin for his dirt bikes, as well as Kawasaki Connection and Len Cole from Complete HR Solutions for his new road bikes.
