The second annual National Netball Day was recognised by associations around the country on July 25, as a way of bringing people in the netball community together and celebrating the game itself.
This is the first time that Cessnock District Netball Association (CDNA) has been involved, and around 26 teams attended a presentation that the association held on the day.
All NetSetGo players (under-7s to under-10s) received a medallion from Netball Australia’s major sponsor ANZ.
Local sponsors The Happy Tooth also donated drink bottles to be given to each player, which were presented to the teams by the Tooth Fairy herself.
CDNA treasurer Debbie Palazzi said the association decided to get involved this year to boost the sport in the local area.
“We’re trying to build the netball community,” she said.
“It’s about creating goodwill and community awareness.”
The day also doubled as a celebration of the completion of a 10-week skills program for the NetSetGo players, which ran for 45 minutes each week before the games.
