Funded by the Macquarie Bank, the Rainbow Café was officially opened by the kindergarten students on July 21.
The building was converted from an old sport equipment store room into a play café for students in kindergarten, year one and year two with the help of teachers’ aides Gail Tsakissiris and Trish Musgrove along with canteen supervisor Annette Lambkin.
The ladies commenced working to restore the building earlier this year, committing spare days here and there to the project.
The upgrade to the building included painting, decorating, buying and installing furniture and carpet as well as putting in all of the toys for the children to enjoy.
Stocked with fake food, aprons, notepads and serving equipment, the students use their imagination to play together in the new space.
Ms. Lambkin said along with having a new area to play in, the students also learn about healthy foods, table manners, patience and socialisation through engaging with the café.
“It gives the kids life skills,” she said.
Kindergarten had first play in the café and will enjoy it for two weeks, before rotating their turn with year one and two.
