More than 40 works from the likes of Peter Sesselmann, Dorothy Compton, Garry Hamilton, Diana Baker, Dorothée and Michele Heibel, Gaye Shields, Setsuko Ogishi and Chris and Frances Fussell will be auctioned off from 6pm in what is set to be a fun-filled evening.
There will be food and wine on offer, and some great live music by the talented Ralph Martens.
Funds raised from the auction will help to support the ongoing costs of the gallery, but entry is free.
Gallery volunteers said this is an excellent opportunity for people to be able to own fantastic pieces from talented artists, all of whom have a connection to Cessnock.
“We’ve got some fabulous local artists,” Nicole Spears said.
“[This is] providing a great chance for people to buy local art,” Emmie Hallett added.
While the ladies said art auctions have a stigma of being stuffy and boring, the event will be entertaining, with local real estate agent Bryce Gibson being the auctioneer for the night.
“It will be fun, it’s a social event,” Ms. Hallett said.
“It’s something different in the social calendar.
“It’s a chance to bring the creative community together.”
As an added bonus, members who attend will receive a “ten” voucher, which allows them to receive $10 off any auction purchase, 10 percent off any purchase in the art gallery shop or $10 worth of raffle tickets.
The shop, which is a recent addition to the gallery, offers small pieces including glass, paintings, jewellery and hand-made postcards.
The gallery is also seeking volunteers to help out in day-to-day operations.
All volunteers are welcome, and don’t need to have an extensive art background to be of assistance.
“You don’t need to be completely highbrow to be involved,” Ms. Hallett said.
All of the pieces in the auction are currently on display, as curated and hung by Robina Booth. Bids for pieces can be made on the night, over the phone on 4991 6619 or via email at info@crag.net.au.
