And, the hall of fame hoop added another chapter at the Tuncurry-Forster race club’s first TAB meeting on Saturday, riding winners of half the program.
The club formed in 1980 and through the efforts of a dedicated committee gained its licence to conduct meetings in 2008.
Thompson was part of the red-letter day, winning three of the six races programmed, and by so etched his name in the club record book.
His first winner was Louis Tres, prepared by Newcastle trainer Andrew Macdonald in the maiden over 1400 metres.
Thompson then coaxed the best out of front running mare Hashtag Noidea to claim the 1000 sprint. Hashtag Noidea had not won since January 2014 at Coffs Harbour and the win would have thrilled Broadmeadow trainer Grant Marshall.
But probably the most pleasing result for the 3000 punters who attended this historic meeting was Thompson’s win in the last.
Arise Augustus is prepared by local trainer Terry Evans who has a small team in work at the local track.
