The Cessnock City Hornets Women’s A-grade squad surprised competition heavyweights Mayfield with a 3-2 win on Sunday to qualify for their third straight grand final.

Emma Stevenson opened the scoring for Cessnock within minutes of kick-off, finishing off a cross as she slotted the ball past the keeper.
Mayfield evened the score shortly after, however Molly Abbot then bagged herself a double for the Hornets to go to the half-time break 3-1.
Mayfield attacked strongly throughout the second half and slotted away their second goal with five minutes to go.
Cessnock fought hard to hold them off until the final whistle.
Alysha Miller had a great game in front of the defence to earn the players’ player award.
The grand final is against University at 1pm on Sunday at Norm Chapman Oval, Rutherford.
The Hornets’ under-14s have also qualified for the grand final, and will take on Kotara South at King Park, Raymond Terrace at 11.30am Saturday.
