Cessnock and Kurri libraries will be weaving some traditional magic and providing jewellery making demonstrations as part of Adult Learners’ Week (September 1 to 8).

The libraries will host Aboriginal basket weaving workshops with proud Awabakal woman Michelle Earl.
Two sessions will be held on Friday – at Cessnock from 10am to 12pm and Kurri from 2pm to 4pm. The workshops are free and all materials and tools will be provided.
Also at Cessnock Library, Cessnock Mineral and Gem Club members will provide demonstrations of faceting stones, silver jewellery making and polymer jewellery making.
The displays will take place in the Cessnock Library foyer from 10am to 2pm on Friday and Monday.
Meanwhile, the crafty activity will continue with both libraries running free lantern making workshops in the lead-up to the Spring Awakening festival.
Workshops will be held at Cessnock on Monday at 4pm and Kurri on Tuesday at 4pm.
The paper lanterns will be used in the lantern parade that will lead to the TAFE grounds for the festival on September 11.
