A new addition to this year’s festivities was a lantern parade, with an estimated 300 people walking from the council car park down Vincent and Hall streets and onto the TAFE grounds, where the festival began.
Cessnock Mayor Bob Pynsent opened the evening by welcoming the community and visitors to the festival before the grounds came alight with fire displays and entertainment.
“Community events and celebrations create a sense of fun and vibrancy, giving us a strong sense of community connectivity and pride,” Cr Pynsent said.
“Spring Awakening is a fabulous free community event, and I am always amazed at its innovation and reinvention every year.”
Event organiser, Cessnock Performing Arts Centre coordinator Vicki Sienczuk was pleased with this year’s event and is already looking to 2016.
“The Beat Dice from Vivid and new fire sculptures were additions to this year’s festival – I’ve already got a few ideas up my sleeve for next year,” Dr Sienczuk said.
“We love to excite the community by offering something a little ‘outside the box’ for Spring Awakening.”
