With many high-quality professional competitors and a few familiar faces, Hunter Jeep Fight Night is sure to be a thrilling night of entertainment.
Ben ‘Bazooka’ Crampton had been putting on fights in Cessnock for years, but was seeking a bigger venue for the upcoming event.
With one look at Maitland Basketball Stadium, he decided that was it.
“It’d never been done in Maitland before and it’s the home of Les Darcy,” Crampton said.
Crampton himself will be coming out of retirement for one last go in the ring, and is set to face off against an international competitor.
Retiring three-and-a-half years ago after 29 professional fights, Crampton decided 12 months ago that he wanted to finish with an even 30.
He began training again 12 months ago, losing 18 kilograms to get to where he is today.
Crampton has fought in the USA and England; he was the NSW State Champion, IBO Asia Pacific middleweight champion and super-middleweight champion, IBF middleweight Australasian champion as well as three-time amateur Australian champion, but can’t wait to go out and fight on his home turf.
“Nothing beats fighting in front of your home crowd and the support from the Cessnock people,” he said.
Other professional bouts on the night will see Weston gym owner Tyson “Golden Boy” Lantry, Blake “The Machine” Minto, Daniel “Froggy” Ford and Matty Ford take on some top-notch competition.
Spectators will also get to see some Kurri Bulldogs versus Cessnock Goannas action, with players from either side set to pull on the gloves and go head to head; more details about this are to come in following weeks.
Tickets are available from Peden’s Hotel or at www.stickytickets.com.au.
