The school soccer team travelled to Moorebank on September 17 to compete in the state final of the small schools division two knock-out competition.
After overcoming teams from Kirkton, Sandy Hollow, Millfield and Wooli, the mixed team qualified in the top four of the division for the second year in a row.
Last year the team finished fourth, but this year they won the semi-final 2-0 and the grand-final 3-0.
School principal Donna Lennard said all of the players have put in 100 percent and have improved over the course of the year.
“We’re very proud of them,” she said.
The team was made up of students from years three to six and was coached by teacher Lachlan Hemsworth.
Ms Lennard said she wanted to thank the parents, who have been very supportive and didn’t hesitate to help transport the players up to West Kempsey for their round four match.
“Nothing has been too much trouble for them,” she said.
The school’s athletics relay team also tasted success, breaking the zone record, winning the Hunter PP5 title (schools with 25-54 students) and very narrowly missing out on breaking the regional record.
The team, who will now go on to state level, is made up of triplets Sophia, Lucy and Joshua Bacon as well as all-round sporting talent Riley Saxby.
Riley was part of the bronze medal-winning swimming relay team earlier this year, he finished ninth in the state in individual 50m freestyle and has now qualified second in shot-put to compete at the state championships at Homebush.
“We are very fortunate to have such talented and dedicated athletes at Mulbring PS,” Ms Lennard said.
“I congratulate them on their fine achievements.
“The school community wishes them all, continued success.”
