Pat McCarthy swam exceptionally with gold in the 70-74-years womens’ 400-metre backstroke and bronze in the 800-metre freestyle, her first medals in eight years.
Dennis Moore had an outstanding swim with silver in both the 65-69-years mens’ 400-metre backstroke and 1500-metre breaststroke – a gruelling event.
Erin Cole swam to gold in the 30-to-34-years womens’ 800-metre freestyle.
The competition was held at Knox Grammar School in Sydney, with events in the 400, 800 and 1500-metre distances.
Moore was also an official for the meet, along with Cessnock’s Diane and Noel Partridge.
“They did a fantastic job, their dedication is invaluable,” Cole said.
The swimmers trained at Kurri Aquatic Centre on their own accord during the winter, and are looking forward to the Cessnock Masters summer season, which resumes next Wednesday.
McCarthy joined the club in its foundation year, 1994, while Moore joined four years later.
Both have travelled far and wide for carnivals; one year Moore competed in over 20 carnivals.
Cole took up swimming with the Masters about 10 years ago to help with a spinal injury she sustained in the military.
“My doctor told me swimming would be the best thing for it, and I’ve had so much fun and met the nicest people,” she said.
The Cessnock club trains at 6pm each Wednesday from October 7. Swimmers aged 18 and up are welcome to attend.
