The combination of Brian Means and Robert Pettett took out Cessnock Cycling Club’s Mount Vincent Teams Relay last Sunday.

The event was conducted on the Hunter Economic Zone course over 35 kilometres.
The B-grade riders drew their partners and for the first and third seven-kilometre lap they had to ride with their partners; then A-grade on laps two and four, and for the final lap as a team (the timekeeper was kept busy).
The first lap fastest time of 13 minutes went to Steve Smart and Paul Murphy; lap two (11.03) to Shaun Shepherd; lap three (12 minutes) by Graham Crozier, lap four (11.34) by Brett Shepherd and lap five (12.36) by Means and Pettett.
Only two teams stayed together for the final sprint, going to Means from Pettett the pair winning the teams relay in 1:01.26 from Crozier and Greg Hardes at two seconds for second prize.
Smart (on his new bike) and Murphy placed third place at 1.52 with Trina Compton and Clyde Marshall fourth (3.01) then Jade Hutchinson and Ross Murdoch fifth at 3.38. The three-rider team of Brett Shepherd, Jenny Means and Shaun Shepherd finished sixth.
Next week’s report will be on the 44th individual time trial championships over 27 kilometres in A, B and C-grades and the club ladies division.
Coming up on November 29 will be the Cycling NSW Category 4 event with the Cessnock and Kooragang clubs in memory of Robert Markwell Chinese Handicap over 28 kilometres.
