This year’s Carols in the Park will be held at the new venue of Baddeley Park (Cessnock Sportsground), this Friday evening.
Country music star and local resident Tara Naysmith is welcomed back to the stage this year as MC.
Holding a special place in Tara’s Christmas tradition, she has performed at the Carols in the Park since its inception and the Allandale Carols prior to that.
Born and raised in Cessnock, Tara has not missed a local Carols event since she was a little girl and now she continues the tradition with her own family.
With her two boys – Ned, aged eight, and Max, 10 – they continue the family tradition to watch Mum sing.
“Although I have performed in front of crowds of 15,000 people, the Cessnock Carols are the highlight of my year,“ Tara said.
Tara performed at this year’s Campfire Festival at Hope Estate and is currently working on her new album.
This year’s Carols in the Park will include the Funky Junk Flea Markets from 4.30pm and the Great Cessnock Christmas Elf Challenge (a Guinness World Record attempt) from 5.30pm.
Performers at the Carols include Anna Weatherup (The Voice Season 2), the Cessnock Community of Great Public Schools Choir, the Hope Valley Church Band, Maxine Chapman, Peter deKrey, Annie Devine and Michael King and Elise Mahler.
A fireworks show will conclude the evening.
The event is proudly sponsored by Newcastle Permanent Building Society and Cessnock City Council.
