The prestigious annual Australian Traveller People’s Choice Awards were announced on November 30 at an exclusive event in Sydney.
The awards were voted for by more than 4000 Australian travellers and recognise the best travel experiences and destinations for 2015.
Hunter Valley Wine and Tourism Association chairman The Hon. George Souris said the association was grateful to have received the nod.
“We are honoured and excited by the award, which reaffirms that the Hunter Valley is the premier wine destination not only in NSW, but in all of Australia,” he said.
“The Hunter Valley shone above other regions such as runners-up Barossa Valley, South Australia; Margaret River, Western Australia; Yarra Valley, Victoria and McLaren Vale, South Australia.”
Dating back 180 years, the Hunter Valley is one of the country’s oldest wine regions.
The area boasts over 150 wineries and is well known for its semillon, shiraz, chardonnay and verdelho.
