Cessnock City Council has released an artist’s impression of a revamped Cooper Street, which has been included in plans to upgrade Cessnock’s civic precinct.

Council will be able to begin the project next financial year after the federal government announced that the city would receive a $950,000 dollar-for-dollar grant.
Better pedestrian, cyclist and traffic access through the CBD will be a key focus of the upgrades, which are expected to take about four years to complete.
Bridges Hill playground will also be upgraded as part of the project.
Council hopes the upgrades will improve accessibility and create business and trade opportunities.
“Stage one of the project includes upgrades to CBD laneways, street scaping, creation of a shared zone on Charlton Street and improved park and playground facilities,” the mayor of Cessnock, Cr Bob Pynsent, said.
“This project will extend the ambience of the CBD area and is great news for Cessnock and the wider community.”
Cessnock Chamber of Commerce president Geoff Walker said he was thrilled with news that the project would begin next financial year.
“We actively pursue opportunities to drive strategy and planning to improve our town centre and commend council on its initiative to see major components of the CBD Masterplan through to delivery,” Mr Walker said.
