Saturday’s extremely draining, humid and hot conditions certainly took its toll on most of the field with only a handful of players breaking their handicap.

David Matt continued to display his consistent ability by winning A-grade with an excellent 39 points, breaking 80 once again off the stick. Greg Noble’s 36 points was good enough for second on a countback from Daryl Sheppard, who was pleased to show some form.
Reece Caldwell won B-grade with a well-compiled 39 points as well, just ahead of Greg Gillard with 38 and John Vasser’s 37.
Darren Mathers won C-grade with 39 points with similar scores to B-grade for runners-up Michael Carling and Peter Matthews.
Tony Seamer won the shot of the day, with his tee shot finishing only 61 centimetres away on the second while Tom Foster was equally impressive with his 68-centimetre shot on the fourth.
Next week is the last round of the Summer Cup with the best four of five rounds counting towards the winner.
Apart from this week, the winning scores have been in the mid-forties so the Summer Cup winner will be thoroughly competitive and well deserved.
The seniors began the defence of their pennants crown at The Vintage on Sunday and narrowly lost to Denman 2-1 with the second pair only losing on the last hole.
The top two from each division make the semi-finals so there is still plenty of time to make up this leeway. Their next game is at Singleton against Aberdeen, a replay from last year’s final.
B-grade doesn’t start until February 21 when they will play Paterson at Paterson, while C-grade will start soon as a revised draw has been organised due to a team withdrawing.
