Brain dust, Lion's Mane, Shilajit resin and not your typical nightcap.

The owner of American cult juice bar Moon Juice (Gwyneth Paltrow, Kelly Slater, Anthony Keidis and Shailene Woodley are among its fans), Amanda Chantal Bacon shared with Elle magazine what she typically eats in a day.

We've heard that diets in LA are the Sydney health-set's version on crack, and now we're inclined to believe it.

Welcome to the exotic diet day in the life of someone who loves an obscure ingredient or three, is undoubtedly healthier than all of us combined and possibly has too much money (check out our loose cost breakdown).

"I usually wake up at 6:30am, and start with some Kundalini meditation and a 23-minute breath set -along with a copper cup of silver needle and calendula tea - before my son Rohan wakes," says Chantal Bacon, a former assistant food and wine editor at the Los Angeles Times.

"At 8am, I had a warm, morning chi drink on my way to the school drop off, drunk in the car! It contains more than 25 grams of plant protein, thanks to vanilla mushroom protein and stone ground almond butter, and also has the super endocrine, brain, immunity, and libido- boosting powers of Brain Dust, cordyceps, reishi, maca, and Shilajit resin. I throw ho shou wu and pearl in as part of my beauty regime. I chase it with three quinton shots for mineralisation and two lipospheric vitamin B-complex packets for energy."

She then chugs 500 mls of cold-pressed, unsweetened green juice.

Green juices, she has said, changed her life when she began drinking them during her LA Times wining and dining days.

"You can have one green juice a day and keep drinking caffeine, keep smoking cigarettes, keep eating hamburgers, but that one juice will feel so good in your body," she said of her initial entree into wellness.

"I also take three tablespoons of bee pollen. I love Moon Juice's soft and chewy bee pollen—it's a creamy, candy-like treat that gives me my daily B-vitamin blast, and also helps feed my skin and aids hormone production. I'll also grab a handful of activated cashews. I try to get these in every day for their brain chemistry magic. I chase this with a shot of pressed turmeric root in freshly squeezed grapefruit juice."

Lunch is a hearty meal of zucchini ribbons with basil, pine nuts, 'sun-cured' olives, and lemon washed down with green tea.

If she's feeling cray, she splurges on  a nori roll with umeboshi paste, avocado, cultured sea vegetables, and pea sprouts.

"My version of a taco," she says.

"If I'm home around 3pm, I always reach for coconut yoghurt with cardamom, dried figs, walnuts, and apricots from a weekend farm visit - and a chunk of raw dark chocolate," says Chantal Bacon, who clearly has a sense of humour about her wiley health ways, saying in a separate article she's been using "weirdo health store stuff" for too many years. 

"I ferment big batches of coconut yoghurt and make big batches of raw chocolate spiked with maca and any other medicinal herb I'm focusing on. It's easy to do, and makes for potent, fast snack food throughout the month."

The mum-of-one, who started Moon Juice in 2012 and found out four days after opening that she was pregnant, also chugs down a cheeky hemp milk to tide her over till dinner.

"I had an early, pre-yoga dinner at Shima in Abbot Kinney, which is my 3-year-old's favourite restaurant. I had a seaweed salad with micro cilantro and daikon, and a delicate broth of mushrooms and herbs."

Naturally she goes to Kundalini yoga - a style of yoga that involves strong breathwork, often white turbans and even in the yoga community is often affectionately considered way-out. She then heads home for a strong slug of whiskey.

No, we wish. How refreshing would that be?

Chantal Bacon's actual nichtcap is an 11pm "heart tonic and raw chocolate made from one of my big batches - this one was made with our Moon Pantry heirloom raw cacao, reishi and Chaga mushroom, sprouted brown rice protein, and coconut oil. I love chocolate—and on some evenings, I don't want to deny the indulgence—so I've devised a million low glycemic recipes."

Brain Dust  - 50 grams for $76 - includes Lion's mane, a type of mushroom

Shilajit resin - also known as devil's feces' - 'a thick, sticky tar-like substance' found in Himalayan mountains contains trace minerals and vitamins. It retails for about $125 for 30 grams and it's purported benefits include "superior" mental and physical performance, emotional stability and weight and stress management.

Quinton - marine plasma - which claims to contain the full spectrum of minerals, trace elements and organic micronutrients costs about  $120 for a one litre bottle.

Bee pollen - "one of nature's most complete 'superfoods' as it contains nearly all nutrients required by humans" comes from the pollen that collects on the bodies of bees. It is used to feed young bees and is priced from about $16 for 150 grams.

Green juice - cold-pressed organic juices - which claim to retain the most nutrients because the juice is not heated during extraction. A cold-pressed organic juice from Cali Press or Orchard St will set you back between $9.50 and $12 for 500 ml.

Activated nuts - soaked overnight in water to release enzymes and then dehydrated to retain crunch. Almonds, famously were the choice of celebrity chef Pete Evans.  A bag of activated organic cashews costs about $18 for 300 g. Or you can just DIY at home.
