A 59-year-old man has been taken to John Hunter Hospital after his golf cart plunged more than five metres down an embankment and into a creek on Tuesday morning. 

The incident happened at the golf course at the Crowne Plaza in Lovedale about 9.15am.  

He was the sole occupant of the motorised cart. 

Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley general manager Robert Coates said the circumstances around how the cart ended up in the creek behind the green at the fourth hole were still being determined. 

He said the man was part of a group five of social golfers who were not staying at the hotel. 

"He was playing with a team of golfers and they quickly responded, rang triple zero," Mr Coates said. 

"Some of our green keepers were close by so they responded to support. 

"The main thing we want is for the gentleman to have a quick recovery."

11.30AM:

A man has suffered suspected broken bones and serious cuts after a golf cart careered five metres down an embankment and into a waterway at the Crowne Plaza at Lovedale.

Emergency services were called to the golf course about 9.30am on Tuesday after reports the golf cart had ended up in a creek.

The injured man, believed to be aged 59, suffered head lacerations and suspected fractures to his ribs and a shoulder.

He was being stabilised at the scene.

The Hunter Westpac rescue helicopter was flying the injured man to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment.

10.30AM:

A rescue is under way at the Crowne Plaza in the Hunter Valley.

According to early reports from the Cessnock District Rescue Squad a golf cart has gone down an embankment near Pokolbin Creek with one person on-board.

Paramedics, rescue teams and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter are on scene.
