The four-kilogram-claiming apprentice rode her career first winner for leading Sydney trainer Clarry Conners, who incidentally was born in Cessnock.
The winner, Heza Clown wore down the short-priced favourite Naranja to score by the narrowest of margins.
Rayner had been aboard the 6-year-old gelding on two previous occasions at Goulburn and Nowra and it was third time lucky on Monday.
Another visiting Sydney trainer, David Payne linked up with leading city jockey Christian Reith to take out the maiden plate over 1570 metres with Classic Brassica at the 3-year-old filly’s fifth trip to the racetrack.
Cessnock’s next race meeting will be held on Monday, March 7.
