The F1 in Schools competition involves over nine million students from all over the world designing, making and racing miniature cars that travel up to 80km/h.
But the racing only accounts for 200 of the 800 points on offer, the remainder coming from specification, engineering, portfolio, marketing and verbal presentation.
The competition starts at a regional level, with teams then qualifying through to state and 38 teams making it to the national level.
The Mount View team – Revolution Racing – comprises team manager Liam Whiteley, design engineer Luca Hawkins, resource manager Connor Minchinton, graphics designer Daniel Lambkin and portfolio designer Jack Stephenson.
Supervising teacher Mark Bassett said what held the team back from a better finish was the paint not drying on the vehicles before the race started.
Mr Bassett said the boys were disappointed with the mistake, but that they improved from last year in every other aspect.
The team made it into the top three for best verbal presentation, outstanding industry collaboration and best team innovation in the professional division.
“I think the boys put 110 per cent into everything they did,” Mr Bassett said.
“They were hoping to do better than last year but the competition was very fierce and very tough.
“They did themselves proud and the community proud.”
It was a good day out for the Hunter Valley, with Maitland Grossman High School receiving the bronze medal.
