Sisters Isla and Mali Barr came first and second respectively in the under-13 women’s division, and Kayla Germyn won the under-11 women’s division.
Kayla and Mali teamed up to win gold in the under-13 women’s synchronised event.
Isla won another gold in the under-15 women’s synchronised event, teaming up with Charlotte Topp from the Central Coast.
Jack Allen placed fourth in the under-17 men’s division, and won another gold for the Cessnock club in the under-17 men’s synchronised event (with Jai Starrett from the Eastlake club).
The Barrs’ younger brother Aubrey placed ninth in the under-11 men’s division.
The squad is coached by former circus performer and European silver medallist Dzmitry Shostau, who has been at Cessnock PCYC for just over a year.
They will head to Melbourne in May to represent NSW at the national championships – Australia’s premier gymnastics event.
More than 1400 athletes will perform over 6000 routines across 12 days of competition at Melbourne’s Hisense Arena from May 23 to June 4.
This year’s national championships will also serve as the final Olympic selection event, with the Australian team announcements to be made at the competition.
