In this Ray Cooney comedy, a London accountant finds he has picked the wrong briefcase off a train overhead rack. The case contains more than a million pounds in old banknotes and the accountant suspects it belongs to a mobster. As his identical briefcase has his name and place of employment inside, he decides to flee the country that night with his wife. But it is his birthday, and she has arranged a dinner with a couple of friends. Add a crooked cop, a by-the-rules detective, a taxi-driver who causes confusion, and a mysterious visitor, and the night becomes increasingly chaotic, with the audience laughter getting louder.
Maitland Repertory Theatre begins a three-week season of Funny Money at its venue on Wednesday, and The Herald has a pair of tickets to give away for the opening night to a lucky reader. The performance starts at 8pm, with pre-show drinks and nibbles available from 7.30pm.
