Seu Seu was best on ground creating headaches in attack and not taking a backward step in answering everything the Pickers could throw at the Bulldogs.
He benefitted from a strong platform laid by Michael Steel in the forwards.
The game threatened to spill over into a brawl several times, but calm was restored.
Maitland fullback Steve Waetford was sin-binned for dissent in the 34th minute and teammate Tylar Carter was also given a 10-minute sanction in the 50th for a professional foul as Kurri converted a 16-8 half-time lead
Bulldogs coach Phil Williams said he was pleased with how his team responded on the track and field after last week’s disappointing loss to South Newcastle.
“We had a 70 per cent completion rate in the first half, which showed the lessons from last week were learned,” he said. “It was an improved performance but we’ve still got a lot of work to do. It’s a step forward.
“Terence was players’ player, Josh Griffiths got the coaches’ award and Michael Steel was good.
"It was a good team performance, especially after the display of last week.”
He said Peter Cronin (concussion) was the only injury concern for his side.
The Bulldgos tries came through Cameron Moran, Kade Harvey, Tyme Dow-Nikau, Ryan Walker and Seu Seu.
Both teams were guilty of dropped ball in attack, but the Bulldogs were better able to exploit Maitland’s mistakes.
Pickers coach Trevor Ott said the Pickers lacked the intensity they displayed against Lakes United last week and were guilty of too many errors and silly penalties.
“We had one try scored againts us when we were down to 12 men. But in a four-try to five game that would have been the difference if our goal kicking had have been better,” he said.
Kurri’s reserves recorded a strong win against Maitland defeating them 38-18.
In the under 19s Maitland defeated Kurri 38-0. The Pickers won 36-20 in open grade.
The Bulldogs play Macquarie Scorpions at Lyle Peacock field.
