Hard Light is described as unapologetically country, unashamedly Australian and relatable to people from all walks of life.
Collins, who has lived in Cessnock for about eight years, says he’s proud of the album, which was recorded and self-produced at the legendary Rancom Street Studio in Botany.
“For the first time in my career I'm comfortable sharing my story, scratches and all,” he said.
“It's taken all my life so far to realise, and accept, that my stories also belong to other people.
“Having written 12 of these 14 new tracks, they are pages torn straight from the book of my life.
“They're honest, raw, authentic and unfiltered.”
The album is a collection of songs that show the hard side of sharing personal struggles but also the light in embracing them to produce incredible strength and character.
On the back of last year’s success with the number one country album Wired, 2016 has been a big year so far for Collins, who was nominated for the the CMC awards and Golden Guitars (the latter of which he hosted alongside Sam McClymont).
He was also recently a part of the country super group, Adam Brand and the Outlaws, and a sweeping national tour of almost 40 dates.
“The last eight months was pretty ridiculous,” Collins said.
“I took a break in April to spend time at home, but it all starts again next weekend.”
Collins says he had never felt like he was part of a community until he moved to Cessnock.
“I haven’t looked back, I really feel part of the town,” he said.
“The coffee shop knows my order before I walk in the door.”
He praised Kearsley Hotel publican Stephen Donn for taking a chance on live entertainment.
“I’m really stoked about it; the full band that played on the record will be there, it should be a thumping night,” Collins said.
Entry is free and the show starts at 8pm, with support by Mickey Pye. Call 4990 1179 for restaurant bookings.
