Cars cutting the corner from Colliery Street, speeding, using the street as a shortcut and the loose gravel at the intersection are among their points of concern.

Helen Horvat said it all came to a head for her recently when a driver lost control and collided with her car, which was parked outside her son’s home near the intersection.

Ms Horvat has been living at her son’s home since October and said the traffic is increasingly dangerous.

“People are hooning up the road all the time,” she said.

Ms Horvat said traffic calming devices or a traffic island is needed at the intersection.

Kirsty Pearce has lived in Rawson Street for eight years and has considered moving house.

“It’s a bit of a worry, reversing out of your driveway when there’s cars still doing 60 k’s around the corner,” she said.

“We can’t let the kids ride their bikes on the street any more.

”We’ve had skid marks facing our house.

“I’m surprised there hasn’t been more accidents.”

Ms Pearce said drivers use the street as a shortcut to avoid the intersection of Colliery Street and Aberdare Road.

“They should use the main road, that’s what it’s for.”
