The driver of the vehicle, a 56-year-old male was searched and small quantities of the illegal drugs cannabis and methyl amphetamine were allegedly located.

The man will now be attending Cessnock Court.

Last Wednesday police allegedly located 18 cannabis plants being cultivated hydroponically in a shed at the rear of premises in Pelaw Main.

Police allege the shed was set up with a watering, lighting and exhaust system.

A 66-year-old man will be attending court, charged with possessing and cultivating prohibited plants.

During the week a member of the public brought 150 rounds of various calibre ammunition into Cessnock Police.

The person found the rounds while cleaning an old residence. Police took possession and will destroy the rounds.

It is an offence to possess ammunition without a firearms licence.

Police will not take any action against persons surrendering ammunition so if you have some at home get rid of it at the station.

Between 8.30pm and 9pm last Thursday a blue mobility scooter was stolen from a Government Road, Weston residence.

The scooter was left on the veranda of the premises by its mobility-challenged owner.

The scooter is blue in colour, electrically-powered and has a six-inch scratch on the left side. It also has been repaired with tape to the front of the scooter.

At 6am on Saturday morning a motorist had a collision with a deer on Lake Road, Kearsley.

The crash was caused by the deer running in front of the vehicle.  Extensive damage was caused to the vehicle but fortunately the driver was uninjured.

The deer was injured and later had to be euthanised by police.

Motorists should be aware that this unusual traffic hazard are about and about, and to drive to road conditions.​
