Three kilogram claiming apprentice Deanne Panya took the 3-year-old to the front shorting after the start and maintained a huge lead throughout to eventually win by two and a half lengths and give Panya her first Saturday metropolitan winner.
Correspondent, formerly trained by leading trainer Darren Weir, had not saluted since it broke its maiden status at Ararat in February but had shown consistent form in three runs leading up to the win.
Correspondent has been sold and will do its future racing in Western Australia.
In other racing news, veteran Cessnock trainer Robert Davies would have been thrilled with four-year-old Zadok The Priest’s win at Muswellbrook on Sunday.
