The ClubGrants program is fully funded by several local clubs that work together with Cessnock City Council to identify and fund valuable community programs and projects.

Community programs and/or services that contribute to the welfare and broader social fabric of the local community, and improve the living standards of low-income and disadvantaged people have been supported by the ClubGrants program in previous years.

In 2015, the program provided a total of $83,271 to 19 local charities and community groups across the local government area.

One of last year’s beneficiaries was the Cessnock District Rescue Squad, a volunteer organisation that is the primary response unit for emergency incidents including motor vehicle accidents and vertical rescues.

The squad received $11,600 to buy a battery-powered rescue tool, which can be used to cut a vehicle if a person is trapped.

“This equipment has enabled us to complete rescues with greater ease, particularly when extricating patients who are involved in a serious motor vehicle accident,” rescue squad vice-president Paul Hampton said

Cessnock ClubGrants committee spokesperson said Paul Cousins the program funds local projects that provide “high priority social outcomes, further maximising the positive contribution clubs make to the community”.

Local clubs involved include Cessnock Ex‐Services Club, Cessnock Leagues Club, East Cessnock Bowling Club, Greta Workers Sports and Recreation Club, Kurri Bowling Club and Weston Workers Club.

Applications for the 2016 program close on Friday, June 17 at 4pm.
