Residents, from near and far, are invited to attend the town’s very first cat show at the Community Hall on Saturday from 10am to 3.30pm.
There, witness 100-plus felines, have a chat with the owners/breeders and watch the local and interstate judges in action.
One of the organisers, Deeanne Wenham, said the Branxton Wine Country Inaugural Cat Show would feature breeds such as Siberian, Persian, Exotic, Ragdolls, Oriental, Siamese, Abbysinian, British Shorthair, Bengals, Burmese, Russian Blue, Selkirk Rex and companion/domestic cats plus many more.
“I’ve wanted to develop the concept for the past four or five years,” she said.
“Mum and I have been breeding cats for about two decades.
“We also travel to a lot of shows, including Armidale, Kempsey, Coffs Harbour, Newcastle and Sydney.
“So, we thought, we should have one [cat show] in Branxton.
“We’re expecting owners/breeders from Sydney, Kempsey, Armidale, Branxton, Singleton, Maitland and Newcastle to be involved.
“And, it would be nice to see the locals support it.”
The judges are also in for a torrid time, with numerous categories – Best Male and Female (cat and kitten); Group 1 (long hair) Best Cat; Group 2 (Siamese/Oriental) Best Cat; Group 3 (short hair) Best Cat; and Companion/Domestic Best Cat.
Adding to the atmosphere will be raffles, stalls, a public vote for their favourite cat/kitten, as well as food and drinks for sale on the day.
Admission is $2 (single) or $5 (family).
