The Hunter Vintage Festival was first held in 1973 at the site of the now De Bortoli Wines in Pokolbin and later at Cessnock Showground.
The festival was run every second year up until 1983, drawing thousands of locals and visitors in its heyday.
Meanwhile, the revived Hunter Valley Wine Festival will take place at Crowne Plaza this Saturday from 11am to 5pm.
It will feature more than 60 stalls including vineyards, plus beer and cider tasting, food outlets and entertainment throughout the day for adults and children.
