Cessnock Wine Country Rotary Club made donations totalling almost $12,000 at its annual changeover dinner held at Cessnock Leagues Club on June 20.

The largest of these donations was $7000 to the Children’s Medical Research Institute, an organisation the club has been supporting since it former some 15 years ago.
The amount included $1200 provided by the local donor group, which had been set up more than 50 years ago by the late Olive Drayton.
Other amounts went to Hunter Valley Special Olympics ($1500), Cessnock District Rescue Squad ($1000) and the Hunter Medical Research Institute.
The club also provided scholarships to students at three local primary schools and also supported the Cessnock City Council’s Seniors’ Week activities.
Bill Hoye is the new president, taking over from Kevin Morris who spoke about another successful year for the club that resulted in a record fundraising effort and continued support of the Cancer Council’s local Relay for Life and Christmas Carols.
Jennifer Philps, the Children’s Medical Research Institute’s community relations manager, spoke about advances in the search for cures of cancer and thanked the club for its ongoing support.
