The Paul Harris Fellow is the highest honour Rotary can bestow on a club member.
Mr Brown joined the Rotary family in Gunnedah 38 years ago and became involved with many board positions in that club.
He moved to Port Macquarie after about six years, where also served as president as well as serving on many other boards.
He moved to Kurri in 2008, and became the inaugural president of the Sunrise club in 2012.
“Don is so deserving of this wonderful recognition, and it is so fitting that he as the charter president of the Rotary club of Kurri Kurri Sunrise, was the very first club recipient of a Paul Harris Fellow,” club vice-president Des Mills said.
“His great love of the Rotary youth programs saw them host many Rotary Youth Exchange students from countries such as Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Indonesia and USA.
“Don and his lovely wife Shirley were also involved in hosting young people from far western NSW, who have never seen the surf, to a weeks stay on the coast.
“He showed his love of Rotary Fellowship by hosting Rotary Friendship Exchange people from France, Africa and USA.
“Throw in his great service to Meals on Wheels, the Red Cross and roadside clean-ups and we have a person who has provided outstanding service above self.”
