She would love to manage a farm or work on a station one day.
But she’s worried about the future of the industry, in particularly the lack of support for Australia’s farmers.
The 16-year-old recently organised an event to support the Buy A Bale campaign, which provides resources to drought-affected communities.
Buy A Bale delivers hay and other essential items to farmers who have no feed left for their cattle.
Some of the hay is donated, and others is bought and delivered by truck drivers who donate their time.
Teagan said she was inspired to help the farmers in their time of need.
“They do so much for us, and the government isn’t doing much to help them, so I thought I would help,” she said.
“I want there to be something for me to go into in the future.
“Not many people my age want to help others.”
Teagan held a sausage sizzle for the Buy A Bale campaign at Bunnings Warehouse Cessnock on Saturday, June 4.
The day included a guest appearance by country singer Troy Kemp, who donated his time to perform a few songs.
Cessnock received about 30mm of rain that day – and Teagan said she hopes that rain also reached the farmers and the places that need it.
Teagan thanked Bunnings, Troy Kemp, Bellbird Butchery, Cessnock Specialty Cakes and Pies and the Cessnock and Newcastle radio stations for supporting her event.
She also held a bucket drop at a recent Cessnock race day, and thanked Newcastle Jockey Club CEO Matt Benson for his support.
Teagan’s efforts helped to raise $1723.70, and she said she couldn’t have done it without their help of her family, friends, her agriculture teachers Samantha and Craig Jarrett, and the public.
Teagan is studying agriculture and primary industries at Mount View High School and hopes to study at Tocal Agricultural College next year.
She would like to hold another fundraiser in the future, but in the meantime, people can donate to the farmers online at www.buyabale.com.au.
